How did you measure the success of the work you did while you were an intern? what did you learn from this?
I guess I measured my success by completing specific tasks, but that's not anything new. what did you learn about your work from your internship project? I learned that I should focus on furthering my writing and give it all of my free time. What new appreciations did you develop while working as an intern? why? I got a better appreciation of the real life. There are risks and rewards to doing things freelance, and I got an up close view at it all. How did your view of life beyond high school change or develop during your time as an intern? My views didn't change, its more like they were fortified. I am now positive of what I want to do. I love writing and it is fun for me. As a career, I believe it is what would make me happy.

Working on the first draft of the chest plate. finalized first draft + my dog. Second draft of the chest plate. Definitely too short. An old droid model that we were talking over and thinking of how to improve. The circuitry inside.
I'm starting to learn that this isn't for me. I'll go over it more in my presentation, but when we talked (Me and my mentor) we eventually came to the agreement that my true passion was writing, and that I joined this internship out of desperation because no publishers would accept an unpaid intern. This month was essentially me working on my book on my off days while I drove an hour to "Home base."
I will say, however, this was a vast improvement from my last internship, which could've been done in a single career day. This made me all the more sure that I want to be an author. For my internship I'm creating three drafts of the Main Character's chest plate by going off of both the actual character art and the concept illustration made. I only need to make it into my interpretation of what it would look like, as my mentor says multiple perspectives really help out towards the final design. I won't need anyone's support, just my mentor's feedback.
What is a typical workday like?
Its not really consistent, every day you get to work on something completely different than the last. Mostly, my job consists of finding resources, marketing, advertising, or working my day job. ¼ of the day usually goes to Shadows of the Empire. How important is getting along with other people in your career? Probably one of the most important things in this line of work is your relationships with people. Contacts are important, and they can even be called friendships. Networking. Respecting their talents. Making sure everyone's needs are taken care of. Being friendly and transparent. These are all very important to keep you in the race. What is your job title? Head of production What are your main duties and responsibilities? Mostly, my job consists of finding resources, marketing, advertising, or working my day job. Why did you choose to work here? Shadows of the Empire was something I grew up with, it had books, games, comics, it was one of my favorite stories to read as a kid. Something about how different it was from what we had as a kid. It was interesting and had weird concepts and characters that are overlooked. I also started working on this project to give attention to talented people who aren't household names, people who didn't have experience. I'd like to fix that and turn Shadows of the Empire into something well made that can go onto their resume. What do you enjoy most about your job? Having the freedom to tell whatever you want to tell. Hollywood has become stagnant and dull in storytelling. Indie movies are winning more awards, those who don't have money are good storytellers. Not being tied down to corporate, i can tell whatever i want to tell. Attention will draw towards your work if you focus on storytelling. Don't focus on amassing a following, you'll get too distracted. I think I can say with confidence that my mentor is very trusting! This is a very fast paced environment, and they wanted my help for the main character's chest piece! It's a lot of pressure, and very scary. I hope that I can do my best! (In fact, I was so busy working on the draft one that I completely forgot to post this! whoops!) I suppose this is a complete culture shock when compared to my last internship, but I'm exited to learn all I can!
I will be working out of San Diego
My mentor's name is David Ortiz, and he is making a Star Wars movie (Same universe, different film company) I will be aiding in the costume and set design area. I am exited to better learn how to sew and make costumes. |
